Ward D by Freida McFadden Book Review

 Ward D by Freida McFadden

Amy is a medical student. Her worst nightmare is coming true. She has to spend a night in a locked psychiatric ward. She is dreading this. She doesn't want to do this. This is a required rotation for class.  As the hours go by, Amy is convinced something bad is going to happen. When patients and staff start to vanish, it becomes apparent to Amy that everyone is in danger.

I read this on my Kindle. It is currently free to read if you have Kindle Unlimited. This is a psychological thriller. I really enjoyed this one. The storyline kept me interested throughout the whole story. For me, it was hard for me to figure out what was true and what wasn't. Just when I thought, "Ok, this character is telling the truth", then something else happened. So I became unsure again. This sort of messed with my mind on who was trusting and who was not. Lol. Poor Amy, her mind kept getting messed with like she was going crazy. She didn't even want to be there in the first place. She kept seeing things. Staff and patients kept disappearing. Who can you trust?

I've grown to really like Freida McFadden's books, if you haven't been able to tell already. Lol. I still have quite a few more to read of hers, plus the other new one that just came out. I think it's called The Co-Worker. It's next on my list to read. I'm currently reading the 3rd book of the Discovery of Witches series. Also, on my Kindle, I'm reading The Haunting of Sunshine House. So check this out if you haven't already. I recommend it.

 The Stroke of Winter by Wendy Webb

Tess Bell is renovating an old family home into a bed and breakfast during the dead of an icy winter. Once Tess gets some handy guys to open up the sealed-up door, it reveals an old art studio of Sebastian Bell. Tess finds some disturbing paintings in the bathroom of the studio. They are so disturbing, it questions the kind of person Sebastian was. What evil did Tess's grandmother lock away in the room? Why did she seal up the room for all these years?

This is a thriller with a bit of a mystery mixed in with some paranormal. It is free to read with Kindle Unlimited. I did read this on my Kindle. I had it on my Kindle Fire since late last year. When I got my Paperwhite, I had it downloaded on there. So I finally caved and read it.  I wish I had read this sooner!! It was really good! I'm considering getting a physical copy of it because I want a friend of mine to read it, and she'll only read physical books. I love how welcoming everyone was to Tess when she moved to the family home in Wharton. It was during a hard winter. Everyone seems to help take care of each other, or look out for each other. It was quite refreshing to read. This had its creepy moments. I was completely sucked into the story, wanting to know what was going to happen next. This was the first time I've read anything by Wendy Webb. Because of this book, I want to read more. I love it when that happens. LOL. I really liked the majority of the characters. I love how protective Wyatt was with Tess, making sure she was ok. He's really sweet with her. I recommend this one.

 Haunted: The Devil's Door

Book 2 in the Haunted Series

Many people were brutally murdered or just vanished in the year 1982 at Blackwater Hotel, which is formerly known as Perron Manor.

Well...Til now...

This is a horror suspense. It does talk about the occult a little. I did read this on my Kindle. It's currently free to read with KU. Ray, Rita, and their daughter show up at the hotel and moves in. Rita helps Marcus (the owner) to start up the hotel. But unbeknownst to the family, Marcus has other plans in place. Rita, Ray, and Marcus talk about the future plans for the hotel. Marcus gives them the funds to do what needs to be done..But..Strange things start happening, little by little..The grand opening of the hotel comes around, and it doesn't do as well as Rita had hoped..So plan B is the works..

This was a great read! I was not bored at all reading this. I kept wanting to know more. I did have a few days where I couldn't read, and it was hard not to pick it up and read. The first book talked about how Chloe was there when she was a little girl with her parents, and her sister Sarah doesn't know anything about it except what Chloe has told her which wasn't much. Sarah wasn't even born yet..So it was great to read what happened when Chloe and her parents were there. The occult has a play in the massacre of 1982 in the Manor. There were moments when I felt creeped out. So if you're looking for something creepy for the fall, spooky months, then check this one out. Be sure to read the first book first before getting this one. I can't wait to read the 3rd book!

 Do Not Disturb by Freida McFadden

Quinn makes a run for it. To avoid spending the rest of her life in prison. She leaves her home, and her family, her whole life behind. She gets pulled over for a broken taillight and is warned of a snowstorm coming in, so she decides to stay at an isolated Baxter Motel. Nick, the handsome owner decides to help Quinn with a room for cheap.

But the motel isn't quiet..It has a very dark past. And there is always a silhouette of a woman watching, Nick's wife. Quinn will pack up and leave in the morning..But will she survive the night?

As for the books I've read by Freida McFadden so far, it's another book added to the list that I enjoyed. It is a thriller like most of her books are. And it's a quick read. It was good! It kept my interest throughout the book, never felt bored reading it. This did not disappoint! So far none of her books have, but I haven't read all of them. I always suspected one of the characters of something but never saw something else coming. That made my jaw drop. I just couldn't believe that this character did what they did..As for the other character, I'm not surprised she did what she did. She gave me a bad vibe from the moment her character was introduced. You'll just have to read it if you want to know what I'm talking about. I try not to do any kind of spoilers, but if I do I will give you fair warning.

 The First Shot by Liv Constantine

A prequel to The Last Mrs Parrish. Who is Amber Patterson? For one, she has many secrets. She sneaks out to meet up with a guy and runs to Colorado to start a new life. She's preparing herself to meet her "future husband".

I read this on my kindle. It's currently on Kindle Unlimited, so I was able to read it for free. Before Amber meets Jackson Parrish, she meets her first wealthy man. We finally get an idea who Amber was before she met Jackson Parrish..  She sneaks out and meets up with a guy and, then she heads to Colorado in hopes to meet her wealthy future husband. She's trying really hard to leave her old life behind. But she's preparing herself for that first. She studies his life, what he likes, and his wife who passed away years ago. Does she successfully snatch him up? You'll have to read to find out. I really enjoyed this one. It's not as good as The Last Mrs. Parrish, but still good.  It was a pretty quick read. Although it did take a bit to read it, because I didn't have time to read for almost a week due to an emergency. So I couldn't focus on reading or anything else..But things are getting better...Anyways back to this..So if you have read The Last Mrs. Parrish, then you'll probably want to read this one. This is from Amber's POV before meeting Jackson. I think it's worth reading.

 Ghost 19 By Simone St. James

Ginette moves to a small town in a suburban area in NY. She moves to 19 Howard Ave. The only entertainment she gets is by watching the neighbors and she makes up their names as she has never met them. They are very interesting to her. 1 neighbor is always at his typewriter, a couple whose mother-in-law moves in, and then there is a little girl with her doll and carriage. Ginette finds it so hard to sleep in the new house. So many strange noises are coming from the basement. Also, she can't leave the house..Ever..She can't figure out why. She isn't mad, or suffering anything. There's a mysterious man who starts to make terrifying appearances. Ginette believes he is a killer, and murder has taken place in the house that she rents. Will Ginette ever escape the house?

It was really good. I liked it! This was the first book I've read by this author. I wish it was longer. While this is a short novella, I felt that the story could have been pushed into a full novel. More could have been created for this story. I was sucked into the story, and couldn't put it down! But of course, I had to several times to get stuff done. Haha! This definitely gave me the creeps. So if you're looking for a short creepy ghost book to read, then check this one out.

Well until one of her patients turns up dead, in the same way her father would kill them. Someone is trying to frame her, but she is determined to find out who it is.

I read this on my Kindle. It's currently on Kindle Unlimited. So you can read it for free. This was really good! I didn't expect any less from Freida. I was completely sucked into the story! Poor Nora, she was losing her mind from what was going on. She couldn't figure out who could this killer be. Was it her father, even though he was still in prison? She has received letters from him but hasn't visited him since he's been in prison. Was it the guy she was seeing? Who was it that was planted blood in her basement, and severed hands in the trunk of her car? Who was killing her patients? If you want to know the answer to these questions, you'll have to read the book. You won't regret it.

Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter - Book Review

 Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter

Andrea joined the US Marshal recently. She is now determined to find out what happened to Emily in 1982. Emily was murdered in 1982, and it still remains unsolved. 40 years later, Andrea's first assignment is to protect a judge in Longbill Beach. But Andrea wants to investigate and figure out what really happens to Emily. She has to solve it before Andrea gets silenced herself.

First off, I want to say I didn't realize that Girl, Forgotten was the 2nd book of Andrea Oliver's series. The first book was Pieces of Her. I hadn't read that one yet. But I didn't feel like I missed anything by not reading it. But I could be wrong. I will try to get on my hands on it soon to read it. If you have read it, and think it should be read first before Girl, Forgotten please let me know in the comments.

I thought Girl, Forgotten was really good! It tells from the POV of Emily from 1982, the year she was murdered, and then 40 years later in Andrea's POV. It is not confusing when they switch back and forth. I was able to keep up with the story easily. It did keep my interest throughout the book and never felt bored. I really like Andrea's character. She is a strong-willed woman who wasn't going to let anyone get to her. Her partner/mentor Bible who is also a Marshal, respected her and allowed her to be his "partner" meaning that he listened to her. They worked together so well. He wasn't an "I think I'm right all the time" type of guy. Bible's wife and boss Cussy (yes that's her name. Lol.) was the same way. She showed she was the boss but listened to everyone. No one picked on Andrea because she was a newbie. I did have quite a few days where I couldn't read because I was too tired or distracted. That wasn't because of the book. If you like a good thriller, then try checking this one out. I hope there is another one, because of how it ended. I want to know what's going to happen next.
