 Craven Manor by Darcy Coates

Daniel is looking for a fresh start. While alone in the apartment he lives with his friend, a note was slipped under the door. It was a job offer for the position of groundskeeper at an old, ancient manor. Daniel was so excited at the opportunity. But..Upon arrival, the place gave him a bad feeling, something wasn't right with the place. Still, he gave it a chance.

He found the groundskeeper's cottage and you can tell it hasn't been lived in for a long time. But he decided he didn't have a choice. He cleans it up. On the first night, something weird happens, and Daniel realizes he isn't alone. There's a light in the tower of the Manor. But yet, it doesn't seem like anyone lives in the Manor considering how worn down it is. Daniel soon finds out that the Manor is holding a terrible secret.

I read it for free when it was available on Kindle Unlimited. I really liked this book. It was creepy! I couldn't put it down! I would consider this a "safe horror" book. It's not really scary, but it is creepy. Lol. It's a quick read. I will admit there were times I kept talking out loud like Daniel could hear me. Saying things like, "Don't go in there!", or "Turn around and go!". LOL. Just like you would be yelling at the TV when watching a horror movie. That was me..Haha! I found the story very interesting, and I wanted to know more, which is why I couldn't put it down. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a paranormal, creepy, mystery type of book.

 The Last Thing He Told Me By Laura Dave

Hannah's world is turned upside down when her husband (Owen Michaels) of 1 year disappears and leaves her a note. The note says "Protect her". Hannah is so confused, but she knows what the note means. It was meant to protect Bailey. Her 16-year-old stepdaughter, who lost her mother when she was younger. She is unable to reach Owen as she finds out his boss has been arrested, and the FBI and US Marshals show up at her door..Owen isn't who is says he is.. Hannah and Bailey decided to set out and figure out what happen to Owen and what was going on..They certainly didn't anticipate what was to come..

This is a mystery thriller. It has family drama and a shocking, heartbreaking turn of events..I did purchase the book and read it a while back..I enjoyed it. It kept my attention. I had trouble putting it down because I wanted to know what happens next. I recommend it! So sorry this is a short review. But just because it's short, it does not take away from how good the book was. I just don't like spoiling anything. Also, I just found out that there is a TV Miniseries for the book. I didn't know that. It is set to premiere on 4-14-23. It stars Jennifer Garner as Hannah. I don't have AppleTV, so if anyone does and has watched it, please let me know how it is.

Jake and his sons live in a remote area in the mountains of Colorado, so Tiernan must learn to survive. They take her under their wing and teach her everything she needs to know.

This is all that I will say about this book. I know this book gets lots of mixed reviews. I debated whether or not to review it. But I decided to. Because I did read the book. I read it for free with Kindle Unlimited. Well, I read it a while back. This is NOT for children or teenagers. This is a book for people over the age of 18. This is considered a coming-of-age, new-adult romance book. This book can get pretty raunchy. I did like the book. I thought the story behind the raunchy parts was good. This is a book you'll have to decide for yourself if you want to read it or not.

Leeds is feeling more and more connected to Willow. So, Leeds needs to make a choice..

I've read that some people didn't really care for this book. But I really enjoyed it. I thought it was really good! It was the first book I've read by Colleen, and it won't be my last. I've heard so many great things about her books. I look forward to reading more. The book kept my attention the whole time. I had trouble putting it down! It is a quick read. I literally held my breath at 1 part of the book. If you read it or have read it, then you'll know what part I'm talking about. It is a romance, paranormal type of book. I think it's worth reading. I recommend it.

I absolutely loved it! Such a cute holiday story! I know Christmas is over, but I didn't really read holiday books as I wasn't really in the Christmas mood. I barely watched Christmas movies and I love those! Too much stuff going on. But I really did want to read this, and I do have a few others I still want to read. So you might see a few more Christmas books pop up here and there. I did win this from a GoodReads giveaway. GoodReads is like a Facebook for readers. I'll provide a link below if you want to check it out. I'm so glad I won it. It is a rom-com. Well, in my opinion, it is. I've laughed, teared up, and smiled so many times. 

Kara is an animal lover and a veterinarian. She runs Meow and Furever Cat Cafe with her best friend Charity. Kara has to figure out a way to keep the cafe/clinic open. Kara runs into Ben. Ben is smart, funny, and at times annoying. He works at a marketing firm. He believes in what Kara is doing, and offers his help. Kara accepts. She would be an idiot not to. He comes up with a plan to have all 25 cats adopted by Christmas. Can they do this? While trying to save the clinic/cafe, Kara and Ben get to know each other. Are they discovering they have feelings for one another? With Ben and Kara's past coming back to them, they both must face them. But will they survive? Can they have their own purrfect holiday?..Together?..

As I said, this was sooo good! I definitely recommend it. I know it's after Christmas, but still, give it a shot. While I did say it is a rom-com, but there is a slight bit of drama too.

TV Show - Big Sky

 Big Sky

So I've heard this show for a while now. I know they are currently in their 3rd season. Well, I started season 1 last week and I'm hooked!! I'm on season 1 episode 14. Wow, this show has got it all! It's got murder, drama, etc..It's pretty intense so far in my opinion. I'm enjoying it! It has Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury, and a few others. I know that Jensen Ackles and Reba McIntyre will join in the later seasons. Can't wait til I catch up to season 3 to see Jensen! It is on ABC and Hulu. So, I've been watching it on Hulu. Sorry, this is so short, but I'm loving this show!

 The Last Summer Sister by Rachel Cullen - Book Review

So I read this back in August 2022. I had written a review in my notebook but had yet to get around to posting it. So here we go! I read this for free with my Kindle Unlimited. It is still currently free with Kindle Unlimited, or you can buy it for $3.99. I will provide links down below as always.

This was slow in the beginning. But it did pick up for me a couple of chapters in. This book is about betrayal, family, forgiveness, being there for each other, and listening, not making assumptions. 

The Summer sisters didn't really have much in common with each other. They didn't talk to each other often. When their father passes away unexpectedly, it was revealed that they have a half-sister name, Courtney. They were shocked to learn about Courtney, and even upset to learn that their father had a brief affair. This came as a shock to Courtney as well. This wasn't easy for her either. Growing up, Courtney never knew she had sisters and knew her father.

After certain events/situations, the sisters finally came together, talked, and started to heal as a family. I'm trying not to spoil anything, as this is worth a read.

So I got my book of the month for this month. There were 3 on the list I wanted to choose from but I couldn't afford an add-on, so I just picked one.  If you don't know what Book of the Month is. It is a monthly subscription that allows you to pick a book from a selection they curated. You have a few days to make your selection. You can choose to have add-ons. You can choose up to 3 add-ons. It is $15.99 a month. You don't have to choose a book if there isn't anything you like that month. You can save the credit for next time or choose another book from previous months. It says you can skip a month, which you can. But you will still get charged. Just the credit will be saved. Each add-on is $15.99 for the first few months. I chose The Reunion by Kayla Olson. The 2nd book I really wanted to get was Lunar Love by Lauren Kung Jessen and the 3rd book was What Lies in the Woods by Kate Alice Marshall. Both seemed really good. The selection this month was pretty good. Those were the 3 I was interested in. But ultimately I chose The Reunion.

Doesn't that seem good? It does to me. Lol. It seems to be a rom-com, so I think that will lift my spirits temporarily. Well, when I read this, it will. Lol. It states this is the editor's best romance. So I guess we'll see about that.

So I thought I would start something else too. I figure I would let you know what book/books I choose each month on my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Each month that I'm a member, I get to choose 1 or 2 books. Some months we choose 1, and others we get to choose 2. This month for January, we get to choose 2 books. I chose The Chemistry of Love because it seems really good from the synopsis I read. It is a romance. I have a feeling it's a rom-com. Lol. This doesn't officially release til Feb 1, 2023. I chose The Witch of Tin Mountain as my 2nd book because it seems different and interesting. It is described as a Gothic Historical. It seems like it could have a bit of suspense to it. I thought it seemed different. So I chose it as my 2nd book of this month. Here is the synopsis if you're interested.

 Mitchell Manor by S.R. Leinbeck - Book Review

I won this through a Goodreads giveaway. It was a kindle version of the book. You can read it for free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I read this back in Nov. I have several books I've read over the last few months that I have written down reviewing the books, but I have not gotten around to posting them til now.

Anyways, back to this book. This was a super quick read. I read it in 1 day because it was only 86 pages long. I thought it was good. I enjoyed it. It's your classic ghost story, things go bump in the night type of book. It's got a bit of romance too.

Elle, who is a novelist rents Mitchell Manor to get away from the city distraction to work on her next new book. But on her first day, strange things start happening. So she tries to figure out the story behind the manor and the people who own it or use to.

Sorry, this review is so short. The story is so short, that it's hard not to spoil anything. So I'll leave it at this. I really wish this book was a bit longer. It has so much potential to be a great story if it was longer.

I decided to bundle these 2 books into 1 review. I read them back to back. I read them back in Oct 2022. I meant to do this review shortly after, but I deleted it off my kindle and forgot about it. I read them for free with my Kindle Unlimited. They are quick-read.

This was super weird and downright creepy at times for both books. Which made these great books to read for October. Lol. While I didn't spoil too much, there are still some spoilers. So please beware before reading further ahead.

Sophie is heartbroken to find out that her family has gone bankrupt due to a disaster that happened. A wealthy man comes along and offers her hand in marriage to her father. Sophie decides to accept his hand in order to save her family. Sophie arrives at her new home in Northwood with Joseph. She is greeted by Joseph's aunt, their butler, and his young daughter Elise. The family and the home carry a dark secret. The mansion is so dark, eerie, and haunted by something dangerous. Sophie starts to fall in love with Joesph even though he carries an unforgivable secret. She too is now haunted by the dark sinister shadow in the house.

Start of the 2nd book, Sophie and Joseph survive the house of ghosts. Well, that's what they think. They spend time with Sophie's family. Turns out the dark shadow has attached itself to Elise, the butler's daughter. Sophie and Joseph return to the house to try to find a way to destroy the shadow without harming Elise. The answer is somewhere in the house.

I enjoyed reading both. I wish they were a bit longer. They kept me interested and wanting more throughout the books. I had a hard time putting them down, so while reading these I had a few late nights. Lol. I finished both books about 2 days each as I did have to work. I did read them for free while they were on Kindle Unlimited. Unfortunately, they are not on Kindle Unlimited at the moment. But you can still purchase them. Links will be below. So my Ninja coffee maker stopped working correctly in the last week of Dec 2022. I've had it for a good 4 to 5 years, I think. It was a long time. So I needed to get a new one. I looked and researched for a few days. So I decided to go with the Ninja Dualbrew Pro Coffee System CFP300 series.

I'm so happy with my purchase so far. It works great! I love how many different functions it has. The model I bought does have a "keep warm" function. This has a k-pod attachment if you want to use a k-pod. You can remove the K-pod attachment to brew a pot of coffee from coffee grounds. The water reservoir can be moved from the back to the right side, or keep it at the back. It depends on the space where you plan to put it. I have the water reservoir set on the right side.

If you want to have a cup of hot water for tea, or if you use water for oatmeal, or whatever you need it for, this has a separate water pump, so whatever you're doing isn't contaminated with the taste of coffee. You would turn the left side knob to water. Then you can select Hot or Boil water. It comes out of a different pump. Which is awesome! I have tested it twice, but my tea doesn't taste a hint of coffee like it would with my old one. That's why I stopped doing that with my old coffee maker. It has a delay timer, so if you like to set up for your coffee to be ready in the morning, you can do that. I make set mine up every night before bed. So it's ready for me when I get up in the morning all brewed and ready to go. So far I'm loving it! I've had it for almost a week now.  Our kitchen is currently going through a remodel, but here is a picture of mine. I took this picture when I was doing the first time rinse-out per the instructions.

So I thought I would start a TBR (To Be Read) list on my blog. In case anyone was curious what was on my list for each other. Although, my list does change sometimes. Hahaha! I usually always find a book that I want to read next before some other ones I want to read. Lol. So here's what I hope to read this month. I hope to read at least 2 or maybe 3. I'm dealing with some heartbreak, and I don't know if I'll be too distracted to read or not. But I'm definitely going to try.

Layla By Colleen Hoover - I've heard many great things about Colleen Hoover's books. I have several of her books I really want to read. I will post a review when I'm done. I hope it's good! Here is the synopsis if you're interested.

If you're looking for a feel-good Christmas story. This is definitely one of them! I didn't read as much as I wanted to during the holiday months. I had several Christmas books I wanted to read. But with what happened in my life in the last few months, I wasn't in the Christmas Spirit..I'm currently reading another one right now. I read this on my Kindle. Amazon was giving it away for free for a limited time if you have a Kindle Unlimited membership. You could claim it as your own for free for a limited time. So I did. It is still free with the app, right now.. This book is the first book in the "Poppy Creek Novel" series. There are a total of 7. I definitely want to read them all.

Cassie is currently broke and got out of a relationship. She learns she has inherited a house from her grandmother she has never met. It is a cute vintage cottage in Poppy Creek. She meets with Luke, the lawyer about the house. Cassie had hoped to sell the place and be on her way..But there was 1 detail she did not anticipate. There was a clause in the will. Cassie must complete the "Christmas Calendar" in order to inherit the house. Cassie gets to know the town and the people including Luke..Will she stay or leave? That is the question..You'll just have to read it to find out. This was a quick read. But I took my time with it. I also had days where I didn't have time to read. But it is a quick read. So so good!
