11 years later, Brook Sullivan and her son moves into her parent's house after they died in a car accident. She is a nurse practitioner and takes a job at a men's maximum-security prison. What the staff at the prison doesn't know, is that she already knows 1 person there who committed multiple grisly crimes. She hopes to never have to treat the 1 person she put in there, Shane Nelson. 11 years ago, Shane and Brooke were dating, and he tried to kill her at his farmhouse along with their friends..

This is a suspenseful, thriller. I loved it! Once again, Freida didn't disappoint. I had my theories throughout the book. I kept going back and forth on my theories. Then once I felt for sure what my final theory was, I was wrong! Technically my first theory was right. LOL..After seeing Shane for the first time in 11 years, Shane maintains his innocence and tells Brooke to stay away from Tim Reese, Brooke's childhood best friend. Shane is Brooke's high school sweetheart and almost tried to kill Brooke. It was her testimony that put Shane in prison for the murders of their 3 friends. Brook starts to doubt her memories of whether she put the right person in prison. It's really hard to determine who to trust and not to trust. This kept me interested throughout the whole book, wanting to know what happens next. I really liked how the story alternates 11 years ago and to the present day. It is never confusing when going back and forth. If you like thrillers or Freida McFadden's books, then you'll like this one.

What I Read - March 2023

What I Read - March 2023

I know I was supposed to do a TBR for March, but I couldn't get a post done in time. So that will have to be skipped. But I will tell you what I read this month. I read 5 books this month! I did slow down a bit toward the 3rd week of March due to some stuff going on. So I haven't had much time to read. I did start The Housemaid's Secret on the last day of February but finished it in March. So here's what I read this month.

1. The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden - So good!

2. Half-Sisters by Virginia Franken - It was ok.

3. The House on FireFly Beach by Jenny Hale - So good!

4. Devoted by Dean Koontz - So good!

5. Honeysuckle Season by Mary Ellen Taylor - So good!

I already have reviewed each book and the reviews are up. So I won't go into each book.  Each book was so good. Well, most of them. Half Sisters was a bit boring til about halfway, then it got really interesting. Then the book ended abruptly in my opinion. I had questions that weren't answered. But it was still a decent book. I have started on The Inmate by Freida McFadden. I'm about 43% into the book as I'm posting this. If I finish it before April, I will update this post. Otherwise, it will probably go to what I read in April.

 Honeysuckle Season by Mary Ellen Taylor

I'm sorry I haven't uploaded for a little bit. I was currently reading this book and didn't have another book review ready to go yet. Then I finished this, I didn't have much time to work on this review because I was helping a family member salvage things from another family member's house due to a house fire that happened last week. So it's still ongoing. Everyone is ok including the pets. This doesn't give me much time to read or work on my reviews.

Libby is trying to pull her life back together after dealing with miscarriages, a failed marriage, and the death of her father. Libby feels so completely alone. She starts a new life as a photographer. It is a refreshing distraction for her. She was asked to photograph a wedding at Woodmount Estate where she met the owner Elaine Grant. Elaine hopes to open Woodmount Estate to the public after it's been restored. Colton, a widower with 2 young boys is hired to work on the estate. He takes care of the property of Woodmount and renovates the greenhouse on the property. Libby was adopted and never knew her birth parents. So she hopes to find the answers among her father's things. Back in the 1940's the story primarily talks about Olivia Carter and Sadie Thompson. 

This is a women's contemporary fiction with a bit of historical fiction... I loved it! I read this on my Kindle. I plan to buy the physical book because I love it so much! This is the 3rd book I've read by Mary, and it didn't disappoint. This talks about loss, grief, family, moving forward, and new love. I love how the story goes back to the 1940s when they talk about Olivia Carter and Sadie Thompson and back to the present day to Libby and Elaine. It doesn't get confusing when that happens. It was easy to keep up with all the characters. I loved the characters. Well most of them, LOL...My heart broke for Olivia going through all those miscarriages back in the 40s and for Libby to go through that too. Libby was dealing with a lot. While photographing weddings, Libby was photographing the progress of the greenhouse renovations. She loves the place. She runs into Elaine, who owns the property. Elaine hires Libby to photograph the progress of the renovations of the greenhouse. 

The 1940s - Sadie Thompson is hired by Edward Carter to drive Olivia to where she needs to go. During this time Olivia begs Sadie to teach her to drive. Olivia has grown fond of Sadie, like a daughter. While Olivia was driving, they get into a minor accident. But something happens to Olivia that night, and Sadie blames herself for it. But it wasn't her fault either.. Edward has forbidden Sadie to ever see Olivia again. He believes that Sadie was driving, not Olivia. Olivia does not know what Edward said to Sadie that day. Unbeknownst to Edward, Sadie goes to visit Olivia in her greenhouse. Later on, something happens, Olivia helps and protects Sadie when something awful happens to her. Sadie eventually goes on the run. I feel so bad for Sadie. She didn't deserve what happened to her.

If you like Mary's books, then you'll like this one. As I said, this didn't disappoint. I highly recommend it. So check it out!

Devoted by Dean Koontz

Megan lost her husband in an accident 3 years ago. She is left raising her son Woody who is highly intelligent autistic, who never speaks.

Dorothy is an older lady who owns Kipp and a highly intelligent dog. He's special. You'll see what I mean when you read it. Dorothy passes away, and Kipp is left to Rosa. But Kipp runs off before Rosa can come to get him.

There's Lee Shacket aka Nathan Palmer, and an other group of men related to an incident at some lab. These people are after Megan, and her son Woody.

Ben is a former Navy. He happens to find Kipp, and decides to keep him. He quickly figures out Kipp. He knows that this is no ordinary dog. Kipp eventually leads Ben to Megan and Woody.

*Warning* - I will be mentioning something about Lee Shacket, so if you don't want to know, then skip over this part of my review. It is just a very brief something. But I'll try not to stay exactly what it is. So hopefully what I'll say isn't a spoiler. But I thought I would put a warning just in case.

This is a thriller, full of suspense, and a bit morbid. There were a lot of characters to keep up with in the story. I sometimes get confused, but then remember who the character was. So keep that in mind. Although I'm left wondering where the dogs came from. I don't mean Kipp. Lee Shacket is batsh*t crazy!! He's insane!! I kept saying "WFT is wrong with this dude?!" in the very beginning. But then it turns out there was something wrong with him due to the lab's mistake. He wasn't supposed to be alive after what happened at the lab. But overall, I did really enjoy it! It was a great story! It kept me wanting to read more and kept my interest. I was anxious to know if everything would be ok. It was a great book! So if you are in need of a good thriller, then check this out! I have heard of Dean Koontz, but don't think I've ever read his stuff, or maybe I did and just don't remember. But I look forward to reading more of his stuff. This is on Kindle Unlimited, so that's how I read it. I did see he has quite a few books on Kindle Unlimited.

 The House on Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale

Sydney came back to Starlight cottage when her husband left her. Starlight Cottage has always been a sanctuary for her. It sits on Firefly Beach. So she thought it was a perfect place to start fresh with her life and Robby (her son). That is til some commercial business wants to buy out the houses and turn Firefly beach into some kind of public access. Can she save it along with Starlight Cottage?

As teenagers, Sydney and Nate promised to be together forever, childhood sweethearts. Then one day Nate abruptly leaves, not really saying a word as to why. Breaking Sydney's heart..Now Nate is back at Firefly Beach too.

This is contemporary women's fiction and women's romance. I absolutely loved it! I read this on my kindle. This was such a good-hearted story. I loved all the characters in the book. This is perfect to read on the beach or wherever you are. When dealing with a broken heart as bad as Sydney's, this story will tell you that your heart will heal in time no matter the outcome. I wish I could tell you how the story ended, but I don't want to spoil anything. LOL..I don't do spoilers. But if I did, I would definitely give you a fair warning. This is about 2nd chances. Sometimes we deserve one, or someone else may deserve one. It's your decision to give it or not..I definitely recommend this, if you're looking for a good-hearted book. I love it so much that I want a physical copy of the book to put on my bookshelf. Haha! I cannot wait til I read the 1st book. I didn't know that this was part of a series. But you don't have to read the first 1 to read this one. I didn't feel like I was missing anything really. But if you would like the read the first book first. It's called Summer at FireFly Beach.

So it's that time again. I got my book of the month for March. I received it in the mail a few days ago. Honestly, for me, the selection this month wasn't great. But I did find 1 book interesting enough to choose. If I hadn't found anything, I would have chosen another book from the site, which you can do, or just skip the month and keep the credit.

I chose The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth. When I read the synopsis, it seems really interesting. So it's on my TBR bookshelf. LOL.  Half Sisters by Virginia Franken

Maddy hasn't seen her half-sister in 20 years. Now Emily has back in town to help settle their father's estate. Maddy remembers their childhood and it wasn't a good one. It was a bit volatile. Emily isn't the same person as she was when she was younger as Maddy remembers..Now Maddy is suspicious of an affair and is getting confused lately. Things keep going missing or found in the strangest places. For example, a load of wet laundry was found in the trunk of the car instead of going to the dryer. Maddy finds photos of Emily on her husband's phone, but when confronted about it, they aren't there anymore. She even texted them to herself, and those photos are gone from her phone. Her husband denies having the photos. Everyone is concerned that there is something wrong with Maddy. Is Maddy getting sick like her mom was?

I have mixed reviews on this one. I left a 3-star review on my GoodReads. I did read this from Kindle Unlimited. I was bored by the story for about half of it. I almost decided to give up on the book. Then it finally started to pick up and I started to become interested in the story. Then the story was over. I felt like it ended rather abruptly. I was left with unanswered questions, like Why did Bee lie about Maddy coming over and showing those photos? and a few other questions. She was her best friend. The story should have continued a bit more. I was not crazy about this one. You would have to read this book and decide for yourself if you like it or not.

It's been several, several years ago since the last time Millie helped women that is involved in DV. Millie is going to college, trying to get a degree in social work, but still cleaning for people to work her way through college. Then she is hired by a very wealthy man named Douglas Garrison to clean their really nice fancy penthouse. While his wife stays behind closed doors in the guest room. Odd..

I did read this one on Kindle Unlimited...Wow..What a twist!..This one was so good! It's not as good as the first one, but nonetheless, I still loved it! I am absolutely loving Freida's books so far. I have downloaded 2 more of her books from Kindle Unlimited that I want to read. I know she has so much more..This was another thriller. I loved reading about Millie again, and reading what she is up to now. Even Enzo is back! It's so great that Millie is in college, trying to get a degree in social work. I had a few theories as to what was going on, and each time I was wrong. Lol. Once again, several twists I did not see coming. This is definitely worth a read if you have already read The Housemaid. If you enjoy it, then you will enjoy this one too. I hope there will be another one.

 Yay! I bought a Kindle Paperwhite Signature!

I meant to post this last week, but I came down pretty sick. I'm finally starting to feel better, but I'm taking it easy. So I took my time working on posting this along with a few other posts. It gave me a little more time to test this baby out. 

As you see by the title, yes I finally bought a paperwhite signature in black! They had them on sale for Valentine's Day. I got it with 32GB. I originally was going to get the Paperwhite in 16GB. But I saw that the 16GB was $10 ($149 at the time of sale) more than the 32GB(Sale price $139). So I went with the Signature 32GB. I got it on the 2-15.  I do have a fire tablet that I love. I use it for a lot of things including reading. But lately, my eyes were straining when I would read it for too long. It would cause headaches. I already get headaches often, I didn't need this to add to it. So I caved and got a kindle. This definitely helped!

I'm loving it so far. It's so lightweight that my arms don't get tired of holding it. Like I said before, I'm not getting headaches when reading it so far. I love that this can fit in all my handbags so far. So I can take it with me. If you the kind of person that likes to highlight or annotate, or take notes, you can with this one. It will auto-adjust to the light setting around you too. And it's waterproof! All kindles come with an option to get 3 months of Kindle Unlimited. I already have Kindle Unlimited so I didn't opt for it. The offer is for only people who don't have it currently.

If you're interested in getting one, I would recommend this one. It comes in green, blue, and black. I got it in black.

If you don't want to spend extra money on the paperwhite signature, this one is great. But it will not auto-adjust. You would have to adjust it yourself. This one is waterproof too. It comes in 8GB or 16GB. It comes in 3 different colors too.

 What I Read in Feb 2023

So if you read what my TBR for this month would be. The question is did I read them or change up the list? I read all 3! I have posted reviews on all 3 as well. I also read The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose . The review for that one is already up. I was a little late getting reviews up on my blog because I did come down with the flu for a week. So it took a little bit to finish up my reviews and also finish reading The Guest List and review it as well. But everything I read this month has been reviewed. 

So what should I read for the month of March? I've been thinking. I have a bunch on my TBR. I did just start the sequel to the housemaid book. It's called The Housemaid Secret by Fredia McFadden. It's good so far.
