Fear Thy Neighbor by Fern Michaels

This post was done back in mid-late November. But I had family stuff going on. My grandfather passed away just before Thanksgiving, and it was on my birthday. So I haven't been ok..Still not, but I'm hanging in there. I still have so much going on and trying to be there for my grandmother...Anyways..I'm finally getting around to posting this..I have another review coming very soon. It'll be a Christmas book review.

I do enjoy an occasional book by Fern Michaels. When I saw this one, I was intrigued and thought I would give it a shot. This was on Kindle Unlimited, so I was able to read it for "free". You have to have Kindle Unlimited to read it without purchasing the book. But you can still purchase it if you wanted to. Anyways, back to the book...I was immediately drawn into the story from the beginning. I wanted to know more about Alison and her story. She has endured a lot in her childhood since she grew up in a foster home that treated her terribly. She ran away at the age of 17 after a traumatic event.

After drifting from town to town, Alison settles down in a small community in Florida at the age of 29. She has made friends, bought a beach house, and is enjoying a fresh start in her life. Then stuff starts happening like someone leaving fish guts in her freezer, her friend's daughter disappearing ( a whole other story), then being kidnapped, etc..

So if you like a good, quick-read mystery thriller, then check this one out. I did have mixed feelings about reading it. But I'm glad I did. I really did enjoy it.

I purchased this book from Amazon a few months back and finally got around to reading it.

It took me a little bit to finish the book. It wasn't because of the book. I was either too busy to read or I was feeling distracted so I couldn't focus on what I was reading. Just dealing with some stuff.

I did really enjoy it! The characters of the book Gus and January were both such good characters. Both of them were dealing with stuff in their own way and leaned on each other when needed. Both of them have their own baggage to deal with.

I laughed, and I cried. There are some moments that are so heartfelt, and some that are heartbreaking. That you just feel for Gus and January. They both bicker in ways that it just entertaining. Lol. This was a quick read when you actually had the time to read. Lol..So if you are looking for a good Rom-Com book, this is it.

Hocus Pocus 2 - Review

 Hocus Pocus 2 - Movie Review

Who has watched Hocus Pocus 2 over the weekend?! I watched it with my family Saturday night. I watched Hocus Pocus Friday night. The rest of my family also wanted to watch Hocus Pocus 2, so we planned it for Saturday night. 

It was so good! I really enjoyed it! Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker reprised their roles for the Sanderson sisters. They did a fantastic job! Oh! Doug Jones reprised his role of Billy Butcherson too! He was sooo good and funny!

It was hilarious and had a bit of a teary-eyed moment. Some parts were a bit cheesy. Like the musical performance, they did when they were brought back. Geez. LOL..But it was still funny. Then they did another musical performance later in the movie, which was cheesy. I wish they had done another song. But still, it was good.

I watched the movie with an open mind, not sure what to expect. It exceeded my expectations. I love how they showed the Sanderson sisters' past, on how they first became witches. I really wish they further explored that. The girls who portrayed them when they were young girls, did a fantastic job! 

If you watched the scene after the credits, you'll see that they left it open for a possible 3rd movie. While I LOVE Hocus Pocus, I'm not sure how I feel about a 3rd one. You can only bring back the Sanderson Sisters so many times. Considering how Hocus Pocus 2 ended, there's just no way they could come back. But I guess anything is possible.

Also if you haven't seen Hocus Pocus, you should do so before watching Hocus Pocus 2. Because you will see stuff in the new movie that's from the original. I will say this will not be better than Hocus Pocus. Hocus Pocus will always be my favorite. But Hocus Pocus 2 is really good and worth seeing in my opinion. I will continue to re-watch it along with Hocus Pocus. I hope Disney will consider releasing it on Blue Ray down the line so I can have it in my collection.

 I'm Watching You By Mary Burton

This has been described as several different genres. But for me, it's a mystery-thriller with suspense and a little romance.

I read this on my kindle. I really enjoyed reading this. It kept me interested, guessing, and wanting more. I love the characters. Well, most of them..There were a few times I wanted to slap the crap out of Kendell..She kept going over the line to get a story..Even when it could cost her life or someone else. "The Guardian" character was just plain creepy..Lindsey is a strong character with everything she has to deal with in this book. She is protective and loyal to these women of domestic violence that she helps at her sanctuary.

Lindsey works at a sanctuary for women who have been abused and are trying to get away from their significant other..She is also currently separated from her husband for about a year. She left him due to his drinking problem..He got upset because Lindsey left him and slept with another woman. Then men start showing up dead. Men of the women who Lindsey has helped. After a year of not seeing her husband, who does Lindsey run into at the first crime scene? Her husband Zack..Zack is now working in homicide, instead of narcotics. He's been sober now. Zack is glad to see Lindsey, but not under these circumstances. Lindsey, not so much. Lindsey's past has come back to haunt her..Lindsey now has a stalker who claims to be her guardian..Well, that's just creepy..He's always watching her..Sending her very disturbing "gifts".

Once again, I enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more of Mary Burton's books.

 The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

So I purchase this off of Amazon a while back. I read this a few months ago. The cover of this book is cute and so summery. It looks great on my bookshelf. Lol..This was such a good book! It was funny, charming, with a bit of drama. It is a romantic comedy. This was a quick read for me. I really enjoyed reading this one. I had several laugh-out-loud moments. Lol..

Olive's sister is getting married, but at the wedding reception, everyone gets food poisoning except for Olive and Ethan ( her sworn enemy). Olive's sister Ami wants Olive to take her place for the honeymoon trip to Hawaii as the tickets are non-refundable. Olive is hesitant to do so, but as soon as she finds out Ethan is going. She was damned to let him have all the fun. So Olive decides to go too. They called a temporary truce, and pretend to be "newlyweds"..You can see how this is gonna go..LOL..

Olive and Ethan do bicker..A lot..But I guess that's a part of their charm. They became sworn enemies due to a misunderstanding that happens years ago...In the end, like I said before I really enjoyed it. I think it's worth the read.

 The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

This is written by an upcoming author Sarah Pearse. Her 2nd book was just released a few months back, and it's on my list. It's called The Retreat. I want to read it so bad! But I want to own the physical copy so I can't get it yet. I have several physical books I want to read before buying any more. Plus I have to save a bit of money..Lol... I see lots of great stories coming from Sarah.

She did a great job with The Sanatorium. This is described as a gothic thriller, a murder mystery. I found it a bit creepy as well. Also, it's a women's crime fiction. This was soooo good! I did read this back in July. It kept my attention the whole time. I didn't feel bored reading it. Also I don't know if you care about this, but it is Reese's Book Club Recommended as well.

What is it about?...Elin takes time off from her job. She and her boyfriend Will meets her brother and his fiancee at a hotel that used to be an asylum. When arriving at the hotel, Elin already feels on edge. Being at a hotel that use to be an asylum would make anyone on edge, right? Lol..Well maybe that's just me..Anyways.. Then someone turns up missing and someone is murdered. What makes matters worse is that a snowstorm is on the way. Will Elin figure out what's going on before the snowstorm hits?

If you love a good thriller, murder mystery, then give this book a shot. It's really good. I recommend it.

Life update - Sort of ..Part 3

 Life update - Sort of ..Part 3

So I figured I would give a life update..Of sorts..Lol..So my precious dog that I've talked about in the past passed away a year ago in July. Her kidneys unexpectedly just completely shut down. My family and I were completely devasted..She had just turned 15 in May last year before passing in July. She had been battling a heart condition for about 2 years prior to that...To this day, I swear I still hear her or feel her sometimes. I miss her more and more each day.

I've had some other stuff going on that I won't get into because I want to keep some stuff private..I still have 10 cats that my family and I love and care for. 8 cats out of 10 came to us 3 & 4 years ago. 6 were dumped on our property and 2 I rescued from a mama cat that hung around our place because the Mama cat wasn't producing hardly any milk, and the babies were starving. So I cared for them. We kept them too. Our 2 oldest are rescues too. One was adopted 10 years ago as an 8-week-old kitten and the other 1 was rescued at 6 months old a year after adopting my oldest. So now we care for 9 indoors and 1 semi-feral.

As you can see I've started to read again. Well, I've always read, but in the last year or so I've slowed way down. I've just been too distracted..But now I'm back into it. I've started to read on my kindle as well. I finally got back into blogging again. So if there is anything you want me to read or just talk about, just let me know..

I've started to work on my youtube channel again too. I wish it would pick up quicker. I wish the same for my blog..Lol..But the point is I'm working on them again..and YOU should check it out. Heehee..

I have a bunch of adult coloring books. I've purchased some and was gifted some by family and friends. I still love to read as you can see by the recent reviews. I'm currently reading 2 books right now. I'm reading Beach Read by Emily Henry (a physical book), and I'm reading "I'm Watching You by Mary Burton" on my Kindle on my Fire Tablet. I still love having physical copies of books but I love my Fire tablet as well. I currently have the Fire Tablet 10 Gen. 7. I've had it for several years now. I wish I can afford to upgrade to a new one. My brother really wants one, and I would love to sell him mine, and upgrade to a new one. But hopefully, eventually, I will be able to.

Oh, I also like doing diamond paintings. It is a picture that is covered by some sort of sticky stuff, and you would match a diamond-colored piece to where it should go. It's very much similar to paint by numbers or color by numbers.

So I thought I would share some of the items that I have on my wishlist or just saw and wanted to share.

I thought these mugs were so cute!! I have these in my amazon cart currently. They are great for Halloween! And of course to use while watching the new Hocus Pocus 2 movie!

I love these sweaters/shirts. I actually own one that says " It's just a bunch of Hocus Pocus". The shirt is black and the wording is in orange. It's similar to the one below I'm showing you. Just in a different color and font. I have some of these in my cart as well. I just can't pull the plunge on which one I want. I can't afford to get all of them..Even though I want them all!! Lol..

Here's my "Book of the Month" for August. I chose Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter. I chose this because it sounded really good. It is a mystery murder thriller. She is the author of the book "Pieces of Her", which is now a Netflix series. I haven't watched it yet. But I will! I'm just thinking I might read the book first before starting the Netflix series..Anways..back to this..

US Marshal Andrea Oliver arrives in Long Beach and she has been assigned to a case. She is there to protect a judge who is getting death threats. In reality, she is there to find justice for Emily. A girl who was beautiful, smart, and an athlete. She was very well-liked by everyone. Also, she has a secret. And someone made sure she stayed silenced. It's been 40 years, and her killer is still out there. Andrea has to uncover the truth before someone silences her too.

Here's my "Book of the Month" for September. I chose Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood. It is a romantic comedy. The synopsis sounded really cute. I haven't read it as I just got it in the mail a few days ago. But it's on my list to read.

Bee lives by a simple rule, "What would Marie Curie do?". Her equipment goes missing, and the staff is ignoring her. Bee finds her career is in a bit of a pickle. Lee is tall, dark, and eye piercing. Possibly Bee's archenemy. Bee can see Levi is turning into a softening ally. I'm not sure how else to describe this..You'll just have to read the synopsis. It says it all.

Sorry, this is up late..My electricity went out today, so I couldn't work on this among other things.

I read this on my kindle. This was sooo good! Holy Moly! This is a psychological thriller, women's crime fiction, and women's detective fiction. It kept my attention the whole time. It was weird, creepy, and jaw-dropping. I literally was in shock by a few events that took place. I had moments where I said out loud " Oh shit!" Pardon my french. LOL..I've read several books by Darcy, and all have been so good. But this one..This one got to me..It just seemed so realistic..It's just crazy..

It was so crazy how someone created something in those woods. It was crazy how someone could hide for years of how long he hunted and let so many people die. But at the same time, it's not so crazy.

A young woman named Eileen goes for a hike in the woods and turns up missing. Chris, her brother, and his friends find something abnormal in the photos and show them to the police. But the detective in charge dismisses them. After not getting anywhere with the police on any new leads, Eileen's brother and friends go looking for her. They hope she's still alive. They start to realize that they are not alone..

Definitely give this book a shot. It's worth the read..Well it was to me..The synopsis explains it all. I definitely recommend it.

I read this one on my kindle. I loved it! This was the 2nd book I read by Mary. This was such a feel-good story. Well, it was for me. This is a women's contemporary fiction type of book with a bit of romance..Sort of..Once again I loved it so much that I purchase the paperback to have on my bookshelf. Lucy is grieving over the loss of her free-spirited mother. Lucy leaves for the small town of Cape Hudson, VA. Apparently, she has inherited a house. A house she never knew about. She inherited it from a woman she has never met or heard of. Lucy hopes that this "Winter Cottage" will give her some answers to questions that her mother would not give her. 

While staying at the cottage, sorting and figuring things out, Lucy bumps into a girl name Natasha. Due to certain events, Lucy takes in Natasha temporarily. During her stay at the winter cottage, Lucy discovers so many secrets to so many questions she has always wondered. She got more than she bargained for.

 Where the Crawdad's Sing By - Book Review

I finally got around to reading this one back towards the end of July or the beginning of August. I can't remember. LOL..I really enjoyed it! Such a good book! I did feel like it was a bit slow in the beginning, but it might have not felt that way to some people. I truly enjoyed this book even though there were some parts that just simply broke my heart. I'm glad I had the chance to read this before I watch the movie. I haven't watched it yet, but I will soon. Once it's available on a streaming service I have.

It explains the hard life that Kya has been through. From when she was a little girl most of her family had left. Her father stayed the longest, but he too eventually left. Since then Kya has always been alone living out in the marsh. Kya befriends a boy name Tate when she was 14. He taught her how to read and then brought her books to learn. She tried going to school once when she was little but was terribly bullied because of how she looked and where she lived. No one got to know her for her..

She continued to learn through books. Kya eventually befriends Chase. They became more than friends and were together for a while. After 4 years of college, Tate comes back. Tate finds out Kya is with Chase now. He warns her about Chase, but she won't hear of it.

Now Kya is stands accused of Chase's death. Will her name be cleared or will she be guilty? You'll just have to read the book to find out! It's definitely worth the read. If you are interested in the book and the movie, I would recommend reading the book first. The book is so much more detailed than the movie will be I'm sure. Just like all the books that turn into movies. But, like I said I haven't seen it yet.

Now back to the book, what you're really here for. Haha! I really enjoyed it! It's a quick read. I read it back in July, I think. Lol. It was a cute, witty, funny story. Jack is such a charming guy. Hannah can be a bit too serious. Hannah is a bodyguard, and the company she works for is hired to protect Jack. Jack is a famous actor, who is taking time off to visit family. So the company appoints Hannah to be his bodyguard. Jack talks Hannah into being his "pretend girlfriend" for a couple of reasons. Hannah starts to lighten up around him. Several events start to unfold, and secrets come out. If you want to know more, then you'll just have to read it. I know it's a short review, but I don't like spoiling major stuff for people who haven't read it.

The Brighter the Light By Mary Ellen Taylor - Book Review

 I read this book a few months ago that I loved on my Kindle! I loved it so much that I purchased the paperback so I could have it on my shelf. I only recently found this author. I have read several of her books already and loved what I've read so far. But today I'll post about 1 book. I will post another soon.

📖It is a woman's contemporary fiction with maybe a little bit of historical fiction. It was one of those feel-good stories.

I love how it is a dual timeline. It talks about Ruth's past when she was 12 and switches to Ivy at the present time. Ivy inherits the beachfront cottage upon grandmother Ruth's death. This means Ivy would have to face the 2 people to betrayed her in the past. Ivy's plan is to do what she needs to do and not stay much longer than she needed to. But does she follow her own plans? There is a legendary shipwreck that will wash up on shore. Apparently, this rarely ever happens. There's an interesting story behind it.

You will have to read this book to know more. It's worth the read. I purchased the book from Amazon.

 Kindle Unlimited - Why You Should Get It.

Kindle Unlimited has been around for a long time..If you don't know what it is, it is a monthly membership to where you have access to thousands and thousands of e-books.  See links/offers below! Any book that has "Kindle Unlimited" you can read without buying it. Of course, you can still buy it if you want to. Also while it is a monthly membership, you can pay annually instead if that's what you choose to do.

I know some of you probably will say "Why don't you just go to the library?". You're right, I could. But the library is limited on how many books they have. They might not have what you're looking for. They limit you on how many you can borrow, and you have a timeline on how long you have til you bring the books back. For me, I don't want to worry about having to return a book/books back by a certain date. 

With Kindle Unlimited, you don't have limited time when you "borrow a book". As long as you have the membership you can read that book for however long you want. Or if you like me, I never read what I have lined up for..Haha! I always change my mind or my reading list. However you can borrow quite a few books, but it will eventually it will tell you that you have too many borrowed. But that's like after like 20 books..More or less. Haha. I currently have 17 books "borrowed". I own 4 so far.

Also, another thing that's great is that each month that you're a member, you get to choose a book to own. It is called "First Reads". They will have a small selection (similar to Book of the Month) for you to choose from. You have the whole month to decide which one you want. But once you click shop (purchase for free), there is no going back, or changing your mind. So be careful about what you choose. For example, this month there are 8 to choose from. One from different genres. I haven't decided which one yet. Now if none of them interest you, you don't have to choose one. Sometimes you can only choose 1 book, and sometimes you can choose 2 books. You have to keep an eye on the First Reads section each month to see what it says.

The membership is $9.99 a month. But they do have a free trial. Sometimes they will do a great offer like a month's free membership or a discount. I see ads all the time across Facebook or any other places. You probably could find it by googling maybe..For example, when I decided to sign up, I saw an offer on my Facebook feed for 2 months free, so I did it. It gave me plenty of time to decide whether to keep or not keep my membership. So far I've kept it. I signed up back in June and I'm glad to have it.

Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE having a physical book in my hands when reading. That will never change. But I just can't afford to purchase every book I want to read, so I can read it. I don't want to have to go to the library to get it and have a time frame to read it. It makes me feel rushed. I don't always read the book I get right away. Haha! Plus more often the library doesn't have what I'm looking for...But that's just me..I'm weird..Haha! Plus having kindle unlimited (assuming you have a kindle) is great to have when you travel, instead of hauling a few books, you just pack your kindle. I have the Amazon Fire 10 gen 7 with the Kindle app. I love it! So if you love to read, then definitely sign up for a free trial to see if you like it. You have nothing to lose!
