Here's my "Book of the Month" for August. I chose Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter. I chose this because it sounded really good. It is a mystery murder thriller. She is the author of the book "Pieces of Her", which is now a Netflix series. I haven't watched it yet. But I will! I'm just thinking I might read the book first before starting the Netflix series..Anways..back to this..

US Marshal Andrea Oliver arrives in Long Beach and she has been assigned to a case. She is there to protect a judge who is getting death threats. In reality, she is there to find justice for Emily. A girl who was beautiful, smart, and an athlete. She was very well-liked by everyone. Also, she has a secret. And someone made sure she stayed silenced. It's been 40 years, and her killer is still out there. Andrea has to uncover the truth before someone silences her too.

 If you don't know what Book of the Month is. It is a monthly subscription that allows you to pick a book from a selection they curated. You have a few days to make your selection. You can choose to have add-ons. You can choose up to 3 add-ons. It is $15.99 a month. You don't have to choose a book if there isn't anything you like that month. You can save the credit for next time or choose another book from previous months. It says you can skip a month, which you can. But you will still get charged. Just the credit will be saved. Each add-on is $15.99. People keep saying it's $10.99 but it's not. I selected add-ons to my cart with my book of the month choice but eventually removed them from the cart because it kept showing the add-ons as $15.99. Here's my "Book of the Month" for September. I chose Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood. It is a romantic comedy. The synopsis sounded really cute. I haven't read it as I just got it in the mail a few days ago. But it's on my list to read.

Bee lives by a simple rule, "What would Marie Curie do?". Her equipment goes missing, and the staff is ignoring her. Bee finds her career is in a bit of a pickle. Lee is tall, dark, and eye piercing. Possibly Bee's archenemy. Bee can see Levi is turning into a softening ally. I'm not sure how else to describe this..You'll just have to read the synopsis. It says it all.

Sorry, this is up late..My electricity went out today, so I couldn't work on this among other things.

I read this on my kindle. This was sooo good! Holy Moly! This is a psychological thriller, women's crime fiction, and women's detective fiction. It kept my attention the whole time. It was weird, creepy, and jaw-dropping. I literally was in shock by a few events that took place. I had moments where I said out loud " Oh shit!" Pardon my french. LOL..I've read several books by Darcy, and all have been so good. But this one..This one got to me..It just seemed so realistic..It's just crazy..

It was so crazy how someone created something in those woods. It was crazy how someone could hide for years of how long he hunted and let so many people die. But at the same time, it's not so crazy.

A young woman named Eileen goes for a hike in the woods and turns up missing. Chris, her brother, and his friends find something abnormal in the photos and show them to the police. But the detective in charge dismisses them. After not getting anywhere with the police on any new leads, Eileen's brother and friends go looking for her. They hope she's still alive. They start to realize that they are not alone..

Definitely give this book a shot. It's worth the read..Well it was to me..The synopsis explains it all. I definitely recommend it.

 Winter Cottage by Mary Ellen Taylor

I read this one on my kindle. I loved it! This was the 2nd book I read by Mary. This was such a feel-good story. Well, it was for me. This is a women's contemporary fiction type of book with a bit of romance..Sort of..Once again I loved it so much that I purchase the paperback to have on my bookshelf. Lucy is grieving over the loss of her free-spirited mother. Lucy leaves for the small town of Cape Hudson, VA. Apparently, she has inherited a house. A house she never knew about. She inherited it from a woman she has never met or heard of. Lucy hopes that this "Winter Cottage" will give her some answers to questions that her mother would not give her. 

While staying at the cottage, sorting and figuring things out, Lucy bumps into a girl name Natasha. Due to certain events, Lucy takes in Natasha temporarily. During her stay at the winter cottage, Lucy discovers so many secrets to so many questions she has always wondered. She got more than she bargained for.

 Where the Crawdad's Sing By - Book Review

I finally got around to reading this one back towards the end of July or the beginning of August. I can't remember. LOL..I really enjoyed it! Such a good book! I did feel like it was a bit slow in the beginning, but it might have not felt that way to some people. I truly enjoyed this book even though there were some parts that just simply broke my heart. I'm glad I had the chance to read this before I watch the movie. I haven't watched it yet, but I will soon. Once it's available on a streaming service I have.

It explains the hard life that Kya has been through. From when she was a little girl most of her family had left. Her father stayed the longest, but he too eventually left. Since then Kya has always been alone living out in the marsh. Kya befriends a boy name Tate when she was 14. He taught her how to read and then brought her books to learn. She tried going to school once when she was little but was terribly bullied because of how she looked and where she lived. No one got to know her for her..

She continued to learn through books. Kya eventually befriends Chase. They became more than friends and were together for a while. After 4 years of college, Tate comes back. Tate finds out Kya is with Chase now. He warns her about Chase, but she won't hear of it.

Now Kya is stands accused of Chase's death. Will her name be cleared or will she be guilty? You'll just have to read the book to find out! It's definitely worth the read. If you are interested in the book and the movie, I would recommend reading the book first. The book is so much more detailed than the movie will be I'm sure. Just like all the books that turn into movies. But, like I said I haven't seen it yet.

Now back to the book, what you're really here for. Haha! I really enjoyed it! It's a quick read. I read it back in July, I think. Lol. It was a cute, witty, funny story. Jack is such a charming guy. Hannah can be a bit too serious. Hannah is a bodyguard, and the company she works for is hired to protect Jack. Jack is a famous actor, who is taking time off to visit family. So the company appoints Hannah to be his bodyguard. Jack talks Hannah into being his "pretend girlfriend" for a couple of reasons. Hannah starts to lighten up around him. Several events start to unfold, and secrets come out. If you want to know more, then you'll just have to read it. I know it's a short review, but I don't like spoiling major stuff for people who haven't read it.

The Brighter the Light By Mary Ellen Taylor - Book Review

 I read this book a few months ago that I loved on my Kindle! I loved it so much that I purchased the paperback so I could have it on my shelf. I only recently found this author. I have read several of her books already and loved what I've read so far. But today I'll post about 1 book. I will post another soon.

📖It is a woman's contemporary fiction with maybe a little bit of historical fiction. It was one of those feel-good stories.

I love how it is a dual timeline. It talks about Ruth's past when she was 12 and switches to Ivy at the present time. Ivy inherits the beachfront cottage upon grandmother Ruth's death. This means Ivy would have to face the 2 people to betrayed her in the past. Ivy's plan is to do what she needs to do and not stay much longer than she needed to. But does she follow her own plans? There is a legendary shipwreck that will wash up on shore. Apparently, this rarely ever happens. There's an interesting story behind it.

You will have to read this book to know more. It's worth the read. I purchased the book from Amazon.

Kindle Unlimited has been around for a long time..If you don't know what it is, it is a monthly membership to where you have access to thousands and thousands of e-books.  See links/offers below! Any book that has "Kindle Unlimited" you can read without buying it. Of course, you can still buy it if you want to. Also while it is a monthly membership, you can pay annually instead if that's what you choose to do.

I know some of you probably will say "Why don't you just go to the library?". You're right, I could. But the library is limited on how many books they have. They might not have what you're looking for. They limit you on how many you can borrow, and you have a timeline on how long you have til you bring the books back. For me, I don't want to worry about having to return a book/books back by a certain date. 

With Kindle Unlimited, you don't have limited time when you "borrow a book". As long as you have the membership you can read that book for however long you want. Or if you like me, I never read what I have lined up for..Haha! I always change my mind or my reading list. However you can borrow quite a few books, but it will eventually it will tell you that you have too many borrowed. But that's like after like 20 books..More or less. Haha. I currently have 17 books "borrowed". I own 4 so far.

Also, another thing that's great is that each month that you're a member, you get to choose a book to own. It is called "First Reads". They will have a small selection (similar to Book of the Month) for you to choose from. You have the whole month to decide which one you want. But once you click shop (purchase for free), there is no going back, or changing your mind. So be careful about what you choose. For example, this month there are 8 to choose from. One from different genres. I haven't decided which one yet. Now if none of them interest you, you don't have to choose one. Sometimes you can only choose 1 book, and sometimes you can choose 2 books. You have to keep an eye on the First Reads section each month to see what it says.

The membership is $9.99 a month. But they do have a free trial. Sometimes they will do a great offer like a month's free membership or a discount. I see ads all the time across Facebook or any other places. You probably could find it by googling maybe..For example, when I decided to sign up, I saw an offer on my Facebook feed for 2 months free, so I did it. It gave me plenty of time to decide whether to keep or not keep my membership. So far I've kept it. I signed up back in June and I'm glad to have it.

Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE having a physical book in my hands when reading. That will never change. But I just can't afford to purchase every book I want to read, so I can read it. I don't want to have to go to the library to get it and have a time frame to read it. It makes me feel rushed. I don't always read the book I get right away. Haha! Plus more often the library doesn't have what I'm looking for...But that's just me..I'm weird..Haha! Plus having kindle unlimited (assuming you have a kindle) is great to have when you travel, instead of hauling a few books, you just pack your kindle. I have the Amazon Fire 10 gen 7 with the Kindle app. I love it! So if you love to read, then definitely sign up for a free trial to see if you like it. You have nothing to lose!

 The Haunting of Blackwood House By Darcy - Book Review

I read this on my kindle about a month ago or so. It's on Kindle Unlimited if you would like to read it. You do have to have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Which I love having. You have access to thousands, thousands of books you can read without having to purchase it. Or you can buy the book in paperback. I'll have links posted down below. 

Anyways..I really liked it! I found it kind of creepy and weird. Actually, this is the 2nd book I've read by her so far. I'm currently reading another one by her, and I'm enjoying it. I like the fact that so far from what I've read, her books are a light read, easy to read, and enjoyable.

Mara wanted to buy a new place of her own and get out of that awful apartment she's been living in. Everything she has found so far has fallen through. As a last resort, her realtor Jenny brought "Blackwood House" to Mara to see what she thought. Apparently, this house was forgotten about as it set on the market for a very long time. Mara and Neil (her boyfriend) decide to go check it out. She didn't have anything else to lose. Mara falls in love with the house at first glance. Neil was wary about it but didn't say anything because he could see Mara loves it. Jenny, the realtor warns Mara about the house's history but fails to tell her the whole story. After moving in, Mara experiences lots of bumps in the night..If you want to know more, then take a chance to read the book. You'll enjoy it! Like I said, if you like a good creepy, bump-in-the-night kind of book, then you'll enjoy this one.

 The Haunting of Ashburn House By Darcy Coates - Book Review

I read this on my kindle with Kindle Unlimited. I'm enjoying having a Kindle Unlimited subscription on Amazon. There are over thousands, and thousands of books you can choose to read from. It's nice having the option to read without having to buy every book. Don't get me wrong, you still have to buy some. But it's nice not having to every time..If you don't have it, you can sign up for a free trial. Link is below.

This is the first book I've read by Darcy. I enjoyed it. It is a light read. This was pretty creepy. Adrienne inherits a house from an estranged aunt that she hardly knows anything about. She decides to move in to have a fresh start for herself and her cat. After all, she couldn't afford to go anywhere else. Adrienne founds a set of rules that she suppose to follow. Shortly after moving in, Adrienne starts to see things that she doesn't believe in. Ghost couldn't be real, could they? There was no explanation for all the strange things happening. But little does she know, she falls prey to something unnatural. There is a reason for those rules. If you want to know more, then definitely get a chance to read it. I know this was short, but it is a quick read and I didn't want to spoil anything big. You'll just have to read to book to find out everything you want to know.
